Gollum Jade or Spoon Jade succulent plants are big opportunities for dry gardens. These plants are easy to grow in hot and dry areas, also make great houseplants. Their care is similar to cactus () without the thorns. One of my favorite succulents is Crassula portulacea, commonly called Horseshoe or Spoon Jade. Recently, they have have called Gollum Fingers, Hobbit Plant or ET Fingers, because their dark green leaves like fingers with reddish tips. These plants can to take full sun to light shade. They are happy indoors or outdoors, in the ground or in containers.
Water as Crassula portulacea such as heat and Sun whether you grow in your home or garden. They are usually just as easily as her cousin, Crassula ovata. Both succulent plants can take up to 6 hours per day SO. If they yellow or brown spots develop on the leaves, it is either stress or sunburn. If they are in a pot, try it to an area with less SO, if it outdoors, where they are trying to Enjoy a beautiful, and they should perk up.
Grown in pots, spoons Jade stay small and are often used for bonsai. It grows slowly and may, in the shape of the trees are trimmed. In the ground they will eventually reach a height of 4 to 5 meters high. Older plants take on a different world gnarly looking.
I love succulents because they are easy to grow and carefree. They are great if you have no time to fuss over a plant. Crassula happy to oblige produce and flowers later in the winter. This increases their value as a landscape, plants are unusual in my book in the winter blooming plants. They produce Flower clusters that look like tiny bouquets of daisies. Bloom color varies from light to dark pink, some have a salmon / orange color. The work I started two years ago as a small cut blooms for the first time this year. Established plants should bloom reliably every year.
They are called succulents because they save on their water in their stems and leaves. This allows them to get by with a little water. All that stored water can tend to rot, Normally the plants will take in my garden lush capable of making a light frost for a few hours. This year we had freezing nights for a few days in a row and the top 1 / 3 of my plants was frozen and brown. The stems that survived are now sprouting new leaves. You need overhead protection in winter, If you are in a cold environment. They also have a better chance to survive frost if the plants were kept on the dry side.
Xeriscaping with drought tolerant Cacti and succulents has become popular here in the Southwest where we are sometimes with water rationing and shortages. These succulents add a dramatic touch and see like a kind of sea plant or coral to me. target = "_blank" title = "For photos of Crassula <a target="Labell" _blank> http://www.theGardenPages.com"> For photos of Crassula visit href = "http://www.theGardenPages.com"> http://www.theGardenPages.com to see photos and read more. Crassula are and a simple and reliable in addition to a water-wise garden.

"There is a word for what Darwin and the rest of us have felt when in the presence of the reef: ‘awe.’ Confronted with the reef, awe is the most appropriate response. It is probably in our nature. It is also, apparently, in our nature to destroy that which we hold in awe." –from The Enchanted Braid Of the myriad ecosystems populating the underwater world, coral reefs are by far the most complex. While their stunning beauty has been extolled for centuries, the intricate workings of reef environments remained largely hidden from view. In fact, until the advent of scuba diving just fifty years ago, corals have been among the last natural histories to be extensively explored. The high passion with which scientists have greeted this particular investigation –beginning with the foundational theories of Charles Darwin in 1842–is perhaps unprecedented, but hardly difficult to understand. A phenomenon of both awesome beauty and vital importance, the coral reef is home to the most diverse range of species of any environment on the planet, including fish, shrimps, worms, snails, crabs, sea cucumbers, sea stars, urchins, anemones, and sea squirts. The crux of reef life, scientists have discovered, lies in nature’s most intimate example of symbiosis: the mutually beneficial relationship between the coral polyp and its "tenant," the zooxanthellate algae. Davidson’s history begins with this deceptively diminutive hybrid, the engine behind the construction of the limestone-based coral structure. Together, the three elements comprise a unique zoophytalite (animal-plant-mineral) form, or an "enchanted braid." Aided by an eight-page, full-color photographic insert demonstrating the incredible intricacies of the reef and its unique inhabitants, The Enchanted Braid identifies the approximately 240,000 square miles of coral reef on the planet today as indispensable not only to the livelihood of the oceans but also to humans. The reef is, after all, the "soul of the sea," the spawning ground for tens of thousands of marine species. As sources of food (many islands rely on reefs for all their protein), medicine (corals are used in bone grafts and to fight cancer and leukemia), and detailed insight into the history of climatic conditions, coral reefs are critically important to human life on Earth. However, in a world of oil tanker disasters, global warming, and dwindling natural resources, they are also in grave danger of extinction. Osha Gray Davidson’s urgent clarion call to halt today’s man-made degradation of coral reefs is both alarming and persuasive, effectively underscored by the rich historical context of passages from Darwin’s captivating diary of his seminal work on reefs 150 years ago. Like the coral reef, The Enchanted Braid is itself a rare hybrid, a graceful combination of aesthetic appreciation, scientific inquiry, and environmental manifesto.
